The Orthodontists

Dr Sigid Fu
Sig is committed to providing the best care and attention to his patients. He enjoys spending time with his patients, getting to know them, and developing tailored orthodontic care for each individual patient with strong emphasis on evidence-based dentistry.
Sig has great passion for dentistry in general, and is dedicated to life-long learning and experience. Since obtaining his dental degree from the University of Melbourne with honours, Sig has commenced his dental career by joining the Australian Regular Army (ARA) as a Dental Officer. Along this journey, he undertook further roles in mentoring undergraduate dental students at the University of Queensland and working in private practices in Brisbane.
Encouraged by his interest and passion for Orthodontics, Sig embarked upon further postgraduate study at the University of Queensland and graduated with a degree of Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics.
Despite his busy schedule, Sig acts upon his firm belief in giving back to the community through his involvement at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry and also at the Queensland Regional Committee for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS).
Outside of dentistry, Sig devotes his time and effort to fitness training to maintain his health and well-being. He also enjoys travelling with his family, while taking the opportunity to attend international and national orthodontic conferences and professional development programs.

Dr Yilong (Michael) Zhao
Michael believes being an orthodontist is more than just putting braces on and then taking them off. It is about understanding your patients’ needs first, addressing their concerns, and providing them with the most suitable orthodontic treatment at the most appropriate time.
Having the opportunity to work closely with people and being able to help them with their orthodontic needs is more than just work for Michael; it gives him a sense of purpose and adds a deeper meaning to his life. He feels privileged to be in such a role and to have an opportunity to make a positive effect on others.
Michael is passionate about providing his patients with the highest quality care, tailoring their orthodontic treatment to their needs, and helping them achieve the best smile possible. He is excited to see the amazing transformation the patients achieve throughout the orthodontic treatment. Along with straight teeth and a great smile, there are very positive changes in personality and self-confidence.
Michael has attended and will continue to participate in national and international conferences, local Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) meetings, and local orthodontists' study clubs.
It is important to Michael to stay on top of the latest evidence-based advances in orthodontics. He is a subscriber to some of the most impactful international orthodontic journals, where only the most recent and solid research gets published.
Orthodontics is a constantly evolving profession. While the basic biomechanics and the physiology of tooth movement stays the same, there are ongoing changes in technology. Such changes include imaging (such as 3D intraoral scanning and Cone beam CT scanning).
Suresmile is a 3D treatment planning and wire bending system which we use in practice and this has been a revelation in our practice. By staying on the front line of technology, we provide our patients with excellent results as efficiently and accurately as possible.
Michael was born in Urumqi, China, and moved to Auckland, New Zealand in high school. He has been living in Carlton, Melbourne for the last three years and now lives in East Hawthorn. His lovely wife Florence has helped him immensely throughout his specialist training. They met in New Zealand and she moved over to Melbourne with him when he started his orthodontic training.
When he's not at work, Michael enjoys playing basketball with friends or going to the gym for a quick swim. He is also planning to start playing tennis this year.
Michael plans to join the Give a Smile program, where pro bono orthodontic treatment is provided for children in need. In the past, he volunteered to provide free dental care and dental education to the people living in the Cook Islands, where access to dentistry is very limited. He feels very fortunate to be in a position where he can give back to those in need.
